Is Taking Semaglutide (or other weight loss medications) “Cheating”?
We ran across this discussion on X and wished to clarify a few things. The question has been raised as to whether medical weight loss and Semaglutide in particular, is cheating when it comes to losing weight.
The fact is that there is no one “right way” to lose weight. There are many paths to the same destination. Weight loss for many comes relatively easily with the right diet and exercise but for some with certain medical conditions getting that scale to move isn’t so easy and can become so frustrating that it can be tempting just to give up.
Semaglutide is an injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). GLP-1 is an incretin that plays a major role in your appetite and digestion. Incretins (hormones released by your small intestine) are sent out by your body after you’ve eaten a meal to help lower your blood sugar by triggering insulin and blocking other sources of sugar. For those who are insulin-resistant, losing weight naturally can be more of a challenge. You can be insulin resistant even if you do not have Type 2 Diabetes.
It is for this reason that Semaglutide works and why it has become so popular.
Taking Semaglutide or other medications that help your body work correctly is not cheating. If anything it is helping to level the playing field. Never feel bad about doing something that is positive for your health, regardless of what anyone else thinks, feels, or believes. Always make decisions that are right for you.
If you need to lose extra weight and have been feeling like you are fighting an uphill battle, let’s talk.
