Is Taking Testosterone, Therapeutically, Safe?

Is Taking Testosterone Therapeutically, Safe?

Testosterone, sometimes simply called Test, has gotten a bad rap due to illegal steroid use by gym goers and bodybuilders looking to boost their gains in the gym. While yes, testosterone is a hormone that the body uses to help build and maintain muscle, it does so much more than that and in fact, it is not a steroid at all.

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is the major sex hormone in males though women also have and need a certain level of testosterone in their bodies as well for ideal health. Testosterone helps to regulate libido (sex drive), bone mass, fat distribution, production of red blood cells, and even sperm count. It is the pituitary gland that controls the production of this hormone.

When Testosterone Levels Decline…

When your natural level begins to decline, mostly due to age, physical changes can begin to take place. You may feel more emotional, sad, and even depressed. Memory issues, brain fog, and a lack of ability to concentrate may occur. Body fat may begin to accumulate and muscle wasting can take place as can anemia and bone loss. As if that wasn’t enough, your energy and libido may drop off. You may also develop sleep issues as well.

This can begin to happen as early as 25 though in the general population dips in testosterone levels will usually take place beginning around age 30.

Why Doctors Misdiagnose So Often

Symptoms can mimic other health issues such as a thyroid condition, testicular cancer, HIV, type 2 diabetes, and pituitary issues, or they may suspect an infection. They can also be attributed to alcohol consumption or side effects from medications. The only real way to know is to test your hormone levels directly.

The Decision to Start Testosterone Replacement Therapy

This decision should always be made with your doctor. Levels need to be checked and monitored regularly to make sure you are not only in range but feeling good. Simply adjusting lab levels isn’t enough. At Vitality Health SFL we monitor symptom reduction, improvement, and relief! We want you feeling your best. That is our goal.

Is TRT Safe?
When monitored by a physician who specializes in hormonal issues, the answer is YES.
