What? You Haven’t Heard of “Naked Botox”?!?!

What? You Haven’t Heard of “Naked Botox”?!?!

Botox has been on the market and widely used since 1989 when it was rebranded from OnabotulinumtoxinA to the now widely known name of Botox Cosmetic.

Botox was originally intended for people with crossed eyes, but the studies ended up showing that it produced great results in muscle spasms, especially in the facial muscles. From there it was realized that it might be applicable to cosmetic effects and voila, an entire market was born merging the beauty and medical industries.

Botox is still of course on the market and getting amazing results, but we wanted to make you aware of a competitor that has been nicknamed “Naked Botox” because of its purity. Its medicinal name is Xeomin. Unlike Botox, Xeomin has no additives. It contains only Botulinum toxin type A. Because of this strict purity, there is less risk of developing antibodies against it when compared to Botox as it is a complex mix of proteins as well as the Botulinum toxin.

What These Injectables Treat

Xeomin and Botox have both been approved for medical and cosmetic use:

  • Wrinkles
  • Fine lines
  • Neck Spasms
  • Headaches
  • Eye Twitching
  • Cervical Dystonia

Reasons Xeomin is Sometimes Used in Place of Botox

#1 Length of Effect – The most notable effect and benefit of Xeomin compared to Botox is you get longer-lasting results, minimizing upkeep and expense.

#2 Faster Results – Desired results with Botox can take up to two weeks to show while Xeomin usually is seen in 3 to 5 days.

#3 Less Risk of Reaction – While rare Botox may cause allergic reactions such as itching, hives, swelling, redness, headache, bruising at the injection site, or wheezing. Some claim that Xeomin helps to reduce that risk because it is pure and has no additives.

Is one Better than the Other?

It comes down to preference. It is wise to choose one and stick with it rather than bouncing back and forth or intermixing. The main reason many stick with Botox is that it has been on the market for a very long time and if you already have experience with it and have had positive results, there is really no reason to switch.

The Takeaway

Both products are safe and effective and approved by the FDA. All decisions on which product should be used should be decided between you and your physician before application.
